A term that is used a lot in the defensive driver world is "expect the unexpected" when driving on the road. Always be prepared for the unexpected events. Do you know what? Unexpected events are becomming more common and our learners need to be taught how to deal with these. It is time to embrace the phrase 'Expect the Expected'.
Whenever you arrive at an intersection, expect a vehicle to be hidden from view until you arrive, expect that car approaching from the left at the next intersection to pull out in front of you and could that vehicle approaching the red light drive straight through it and crash into you........well expect it!
These are real situations that unfortunately are becomming far too regular and our learners must learn to anticipate them as soon as they learn to operate a vehicle. You can even teach your learner these skills before they start driving. Help them to build a database of other road users actions while they are still a passenger in your vehicle.
When learner's experience a repetitive journey, they do start to become comfortable and complacent in their regular surroundings. Their mind switches to automatic mode and get set in their ways. By simply taking a different route or driving at a different time of the day can help your learner gain valuable experience by introducung a variety of different conditions. They will learn to take charge more of their own training, recognise potential hazards, anticpate other drivers actions and be more prepared for changing conditions that surround them.
Expect the Expected!
Let us help you be the best driver you can be, both now and in the future.
Drive Safe!
